Soccer and basketball were the sports that took priority in the early years, picking up lacrosse years later when Kayla and her sister Alyssa’s babysitter suggested they try the sport out. “I think my dad is one of the best coaches I've ever been around in any sport and just to see his love for coaching and how much it meant to him, it made me want to coach.” “One year when I was young, my birthday present was that I got to go to one of my dad's practices and that meant the world to me,” she said. Some of Treanor’s earliest sports memories are watching her dad coach, playing the ever-important role of watergirl. Treanor’s father, Mark, was the principal at Niskayuna High School, coaching multiple sports for the school - notably, the boys’ varsity basketball team. “My cousins all play sports, it's important to them and, and so, when your parents really love something, I feel like the child really ends up kind of loving that as well.” “Sports really were a big deal in my house,” Treanor said. Sports were always a part of how the Treanor family bonded, with a large extended family that loved athletics. Treanor hailed from Niskayuna, N.Y., northeast of Albany, where she grew up playing lacrosse, soccer and basketball. Graduating high school in 2012, Cummings and Treanor were Inside Lacrosse’s top two recruits in the country and were poised to be the next big stars in the game.
